Re: [jakarta.ee-community] Anybody else desire multiple mailing list registrations?

Somewhat similar here, although it's not that much of a problem.
Historically when I started contributing to the JCP or Eclipse (both almost 20 years ago now) I used my GMX address, not sure, if Gmail even existed, but it was at least far less common (does anyone still use AOL or Yahoo on a regular basis? O;-)

So my Eclipse and Oracle account are based on that which is why most of the WG work or ballot happens there.
The only real problem is that Google Docs and other Google services work much better with this GMail account and the quota is also about 10 times higher, so most other mail including that with my own corporate domains goes here.

It is sometimes annoying if you reply to a list and you are not subscribed with the currently used email address, Github is hardly an issue, because there I also historically used GMX.

This is a frustration for me as well, as I have multiple email accounts for the same reasons you do. I don't understand why this change has been made, or what the issues around abuse mentioned in the Bugzilla ticket are.

Thanks

Hi,
I'll start with my Jakarta EE friends since the webmaster asked for community support...

I wrote this issue against the Eclipse Mailing List processing:  https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=566973

In a nutshell, they recently removed the ability to register multiple email addresses with the Eclipse mailing lists.  I have been relying on this capability for the last several years for my Jakarta EE and MicroProfile work.  I have multiple email addresses (work email, open-source development, personal, etc). Since this change, Eclipse only allows you to register your defined Eclipse email address with any given mailing list.  That is not sufficient for my needs.

In the bugzilla issue, the webmaster asked for me to gather some community support.  Thus, this note.  I know that I can always set up a filter and forward my messages from one email address to another, but replying to the mailing list would be prevented from this forwarded (alternate) email address.  That's the kicker for me.  I'm very surprised that Eclipse would take away functionality and not provide any means of doing it another way.  But, for now, they are just asking for community support.  So, if this type of multiple email registration would be helpful for you (even if you don't plan to use it), could you reply to this email thread or provide a comment on the issue?  If you think I'm just being nuts, that's okay, keep that to yourself...  :-)

Thanks!
