Re: [jakarta.ee-community] RES: Eclipse is still behind the current state of Jakarta EE 8

Hi,

This exact topicĀ came up in the Jakarta Steering Committee recently.

The meeting minutes from 2020-01-28 only mention that Eclipse Che is
considering picking up tooling for Jakarta EE.

Has the situation changed in the meantime?

Essentially what was being discussedĀ here is still in demand; improving
the tooling for Java EE, now Jakarta EE. The discussion ended 2 years
ago with a proposal to either merge some of the existing WTP
implementations from the various vendors (at the time Red Hat, now also
Payara) into Eclipse proper, or to redo interesting parts as language
server protocols.

What are the current thoughts on this?

My personal thinking is that both is a bit of work, but merging/donating
the Eclipse WTP implementations might be less work than start over from
scratch with the language server.

I'm not sure what the best techical approach is but I'd like to see
updated support for Jakarta EE in Eclipse.

Is there a mailing list (or something else) to follow developments in
IDE support for Jakarta?

Kind regards,

Erik Brangs
