Re: [iot-wg] New project proposal: Leshan

Hi,

Leshan is more focused on server and wakaama is more focused on the embedded side (even if it has a test server).

A bit like Paho embedded C vs Moquette :)

Same protocol, not the same deployment target, nor the same community.

Julien,

Sounds great, especially as I am from the Java world, this finds my interest!

I’d just like to understand the relation to Wakaama - am I right that the scope is more or less identical, just that Wakaama is C and Leshan Java?

From the proposals:

"The Wakaama project covers the LWM2M Protocol, CoAP, and DTLS layers of the LWM2M protocol stack for all three logical components: LWM2M Client, LWM2M Server and LWM2M Bootstrap Server."

"The Eclipse Leshan project provides [...] OMA LWM2M […] server library, a device management client library, [a bootstrapping server"

This sounds like quite some conflict in their scope.

Do we actually already have some rule of thumb for Eclipse IoT on how to deal with scope vs. programming language? In Paho, we have one project that covers all languages, with Mosquitto and Moquette we already have two projects with similar scopes, but different languages. I wonder if we should find some common strategy here as more and more projects come in and the question might come up more frequently?

Kind regards,
Kai
