even specific for this CQ and your proposal:

"com.augustcellars.cose"

pollutes a foreign namespace  

"org.eclipse.californium.com.augustcellars.cose"

is also under "org.eclipse.californium".

All files contains a header with

so the provenance could not be clearer.

I would therefore prefer the package name chosen by the contributor and me.
