Dear Hono community,
we have recently released Eclipse Hono 2.0.0 [1]. This marks the last step of
a one-year process during which we introduced some quite fundamental
architectural changes, some new features and enhancements and many,
many bug fixes, all the while making sure that Hono's external APIs
remained fully backwards compatible with 1.x.
Eclipse Hono provides uniform service interfaces for connecting large
numbers of IoT devices to a (cloud) back end. It specifically supports
scalable and secure data ingestion (telemetry data & events) and also
supports sending messages (commands) to connected devices.
A big thank you goes to all committers, contributors and the community
in general who provided code, bug reports and valuable feedback 😊
For an overview of the changes introduced with Hono 2.0.0, please refer
to the release notes on the project website [2] and the Release Information
record at Eclipse [9]. A more detailed list of issues addressed in this
version can be found on GitHub [3].
Note that with the release of Hono 2.0.0 we will no longer provide any
bug fixes for versions prior to 1.12.0. We therefore encourage everybody
to upgrade to the latest 1.12.x service release or (better) to 2.0.0 as
soon as possible.
Binary artifacts are available from the Eclipse Repository [4] and
from Maven Central [5].
However, the easiest and preferred way of using Hono is by
means of using the Helm chart that is available from the Eclipse IoT
Packages project. Installation instructions can be found in the Hono
Deployment Guide [6]. Plain Docker images are also available from Docker
Hub [7].
If you want to give Hono a try, please follow the Getting Started guide
on the project web site [8].
Please refer to the project page at Eclipse [9] for Hono's release plan.
