In Higgins we consider identity to be plural and
contextual. Thus any given person entity would be represented by many different nodes in many different contexts. The unidirectional
“node correlation” links allow mechanism for federating these many
nodes across contexts. But even when the nodes are federated, the entire set of
nodes is still only a partial view of the “real” person entity. Thus
if a node represents a person, then it only represents one aspect of that
person. If that node is connected by node relation links to 9 other nodes, then
the union of the attributes on all 10 nodes provides a richer view than that
available from the single node. But still the view is partial. We try to
emphasize this “partial”, “contextual” nature by not calling the node, “Person entity,”
because this blurs the distinction.
I noticed last
year at a couple of conferences that a number of academics in Europe were using
the term “partial identity” for, I think, some of the same reasons.

A graph is a conceptual tool and the term "node"
is a term that is part of that concept, irrespective of what a graph is used to
represent. But in the HGG data model, "nodes"
represent entities in the Identity system.
So if you are referring to the graph abstractly, then
"node" seems ok. But in the context of HGG, aren't we
trying to name the items represented by nodes in the graph?
Leaning towards entity (but staying away from voting :-)

Anyone who votes
for entity has the extra burden of suggesting a second word to replace “real world” entities (like people, objects,
organizations, software programs, etc.) that are being represented by a node-whatever.

Sorry, should have been more clear about that. Yes, vote for more
than one.
[Greg, if you find another computer/device with a different IP
address, you can vote again and add your missing input. Let me know if
that’s not good enough]

Hmm. Seven responders and 12
responses. I didn't know we could/should vote for more than one.
