Re: Fw: Web conference - Re: [higgins-dev] " All day" Higgins developer working call on Thursday October 5th

Sorry I was late to the online meeting today -- but I wish I would have commented yesterday on the "freeware" conferencing tool. It seems like a good idea, but I have a problem with the term "freeware". It's not free to me if I have to buy or install a copy of MS Windows to run IE 5.5+ just to access it. I don't have Windows running on any machine available for me to access the online conference today.
BTW, while I do dislike hidden tie-ins to exclusive vendor products, I'm not doing this to be obnoxious. If I had read the requirements for the online service first, I would have lugged in an old laptop I have at home that runs Win2K. Also, I do actually prefer Linux

We were trying to see if we can arrange a online web conference capability so that we can share charts, comment on them, etc. so that we can have a collaborative Higgins meeting. Given the short runway, open nature of this, .. one of the options I looked at was www.vyew.com. It seems to offer free conference capability. Mary and I did a trial run, and it seems to have some good basic capabilities (chat, share slides, pics, arrows, draw/write, etc). Though we possibly can't edit the slides while sharing, the basic capabilities seem to be a good starting point.
So.. please go ahead, register and get yourself an id on
http://www.vyew.com/content/
I looked around, and there does not seem to be a capability to schedule a conference in advance. We can get a meeting id during the start time tomorrow (e.g. Mary or Paul could get it, if i am late due to other conflict) and send that out to the list or share it over the phone.
Thanks
Raj

The latest draft agenda for our first “all-day” Higgins working developers call can be found at
http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/10.5.2006_Online_Meeting
The proposed times are 10:30 EDT to 6:30 EDT. If you have any additional suggestions for the agenda, please let us know or update the list directly.
Due to the length of the call, and the mechanics of the free conference system, we have three dial-in numbers for the session. They are identical, but we will need to re-call in during the breaks.
1. The dial-in number for the first period (from 10:30 AM EDT to 1:25 PM EDT) is 1-641-297-5600 (Iowa) and the passcode is 762425
2. The dial-in number for the second period (from 1:30 PM EDT to 4:25 PM EDT) is 1-641-297-5600 (Iowa) and the passcode is 762425
3. The dial-in number for the third period (from 4:30 PM EDT to 6:30 PM EDT) is 1-641-297-5600 (Iowa) and the passcode is 762425
Please let me know (off list) which sections you plan to attend so that I can make sure that we have enough phone lines.
