Re: [glassfish-dev] How was COSNaming discussed?
 |

    Russ:
    When / If we get approval, this will probably need to be
      contributed under EDL/BSD license, same as we used for the rest of
      the components that were once in JDK, but are no longer included.
      This license allows us (Oracle) to pull back any updates that are
      made to those components, regardless of who contributes the
      changes and allows us to re-license that work since it's a broadly
      permissive license.

    Regardless, be sure to confirm the license instructions before
      you commit anything.
    Thanks,

        I deleted it because I was told that there were licensing issues
        that meant that I shouldn’t have copied it in the first place.

            In the past, the
                orb(glassfish-corba) project has copied COSNaming into
                its own project.
              I don't know why they deleted it
                after a while.

              It was originally Java SE code, so
                I thought we couldn't simply reintegrate it before.

              If there is no problem, I'd like
                to reintegrate the same code with EPL license.

              I do not.

              I'm pretty sure we can resolve any
                licensing issue, so let me know the details if there is
                one.

              In general, I think we should just
                reintegrate COSNaming with the ORB and make the EJB
                container work again.

              Hi,

                I'd like to hear widely about the following ticket:
                ```
                JDK11 have removed the com.sun.jndi.cosnaming package
                referenced by
                GlassFish. #22878
                ```

                The COSNaming service is required to run GlassFish's
                current EJB container on JDK 11, but is currently
                removed not only from JDK but also from orb.

                Russell told me that it might be a licensing problem.
                Does anyone remember the discussion at that time?

                Thanks,
                Hiroki
