[emft-dev] Re: EMF Model Compare

The reason why I am asking you to write emails to the EMFT mailing list is partly because of a legal issue.
Copyright and IP laws are pretty tight on having private emails circulating. See the three committer laws.

The other obvious reason is that you can raise interest and foster a community around your work this way.

You can subscribe to the mailing list and ask for the mails to be sent to you in a batch. This list has maybe one message a week, except during committer elections.

I am adding the EMFT list in CC so that the third committer law is respected.

Thanks,

Antoine

Hello,

sorry for my late response.

No, but I have started. (It seems to me that the repository link on the
project info page is wrong. It should be /cvsroot/modeling instead of
/cvsroot/technology)

Thanks, this is a good idea.

I currently do not know, since the compare work is manly from my predecessor
in this project. However, I will start the evaluation as soon as possible.
One main and basic issue is surly the model compare based on ID's. Since this,
Is the most probable scenario in distributed modeling environment.

If it is possible I would like to avoid the registration of the emft-dev mailing
List, since this would provide a lot of additional work for me (additional
e-mail review). I hope this is acceptable for you.

I hope you will soon hear again from me, regarding concrete implementation issues.

Regards,
  Michael Wagner

If it's ok with Michael, I would rather discuss this on the emft-dev mailing list, for everyone to join and comment.

        Hello,

I'm really opened to collaboration concerning the model comparison issues, as
you said it is quite a waste of efforts if every project develop it's own
        comparison support.

Since the creation of the EMF Compare component we are trying to provide
something easily reusable for other tool providers, that mean for instance
that all the core comparison code may be used outside of an Eclipse context
and that we are trying to provide extensibility in every phase of the
comparison : the matching, differencing or merge.

Did you had a try integrating the current CVS version with ModelBus ?  It
would be interesting to see if you encounter issues and if it is the case, we
could work together to get them fixed.

What kind of "specific" features do you know you'll need to get the same
features between  "emf compare in modelbus" and your own implementation ?

I'm putting Laurent in the CC list as he is the most active contributor on the
        component.
