I wouldn't sit on it all the time and I wouldn't trawl through it for something useful on an evening.
Saying that if people accept you can't task other people over chat then fine for collaborative discussions.

Hi,
Would it be a good idea to create a public Slack channel where we can coordinate GlassFish 5.1 release and communicate with project leads and committers? I personally think that it’s a good idea. If others are ready to use Slack, I’ll do it.
