I have to chime in as I have discussed EE4J a lot during the various conferences, meetups & JUGs (18!) I spoke at in the last 5 months. It's fair to say that there's not a unanimous view on this question but it goes in both directions. Even within the Guardians community, some think that a new name is an opportunity!
A different name might sometimes make evangelization effort a bit harder but on the other hand, it will also for sure sometime simplify those efforts! So let's focus on the positive side.
As an anecdote, when we told about our intention to open the development of the platform last August, some people from the community say that it was "a bad idea" (sic!). We then announced that the Eclipse Foundation was selected to host that effort; some people said that Apache would have been a better venue, etc. We're listening and we do what we can to accommodate the feedback but it's not a trivial project, they are many moving parts. Simply put, there is, unfortunately, no way to please everybody on everything.
