Re: [eclipselink-dev] Updated Proposal for submitted DatabasePlatform integration
|
Hi Dies,
The proposal included a suggestion for certification that would likely cover
most issues.
Our certification test matrix is actually quite a bit more involved. We run
LRGs, app server testing for multiple app servers and additional tests that are
not in the LRGs.
I will remove the section.

Hi Tom,
I see. Yes, in that case I think removing it would be better.
But I'm curious as to what tests you run to certify. Just the LRG's by
itself and then on one (or more) application servers? (Or was that just
the proposal for contributed platforms?)

Hi Dies,
I am wondering if I should simply remove the certification section.
The bottom line, is that for a platform to be certified, there must be a
company or group of people that is interested in certifying EclipseLink
working with that platform and providing support for EclipseLink working
on that platform. Since we, at Oracle, certify a number of platforms, we
can provide some recommendations about which tests we run prior to
certification.
Certification is really a guarantee that you can get support for a
particular platform - we have chosen a set of tests that makes us
comfortable in providing support. I suppose another company could select
a different set of tests.

Hi Tom,
I checked the page but I'm still not sure what it means.
The "EclipseLink Certification" link in the Relevant Links is a dead
link, so that wasn't helpful either.
I can run the tests in GlassFish v3 on Symfoware if that's all to it.
I believe you already have an Ant target for GlassFish so it sounds easy.
But if "Certification" means any more (like with relation to given
support by Oracle), then maybe it's not up to the platform contributor
to decide.

Hi Dies,
Here is some example documentation about the database platforms
Oracle chooses to certify.
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/technical/support/database1013.html
Certification lets our customers know which platforms have had the
most extensive testing on them, including testing that combines
running the database with various application servers for every release.
I am not sure what I can add to that section - this is something we
can provide advice about how to do, but not currently something we
are volunteering to do. Would it be best to simply remove that section?

Hi Tom,
Maybe you could add more details about "Certification of a
DatabasePlatform"? What does that mean and why would I want to do that?

Dies
