[eclipselink-dev] Bug mailing list proposal

Some concern has
been raised about bug announcements filling the eclipselink-dev mailing list
with too much chatter. These announcements could easily increase in volume
to the point where they become distracting. It is important in a large
group like ours where multiple committers are working within the same code that
some level of announcement exists to create a communal awareness of what is
being changed when working in the code and potential bug resolutions for when
providing support to end users.
It has been
suggested that committers could register for the bugzilla inboxes but this has
at least two problems. It requires the bug owners update cc lists when
taking ownership of bugs and individual bug updates can create a lot of
automatic chatter resulting in the same problem that the dev list may
experience.
I propose a second
list eclipselink-bugs where bug based discussions can take place and
announcements can be raised to all committers. The
superfluous automatic bugzilla update emails would be avoided but the
bug traffic would still be isolated to this mailing list leaving the dev
list for less mundane discussions.
