Well, the deadline came and went last night and we ended up with over 240 talks for the general conference and 281 talks in total! Thank-you to everyone who helped get the word out. I think we have a lot of great proposals and I'm sure this will be an excellent conference.

Now the fun begins....

As we discussed at the last meeting (and I mentioned in my previous email), our first meeting will be on November 21st at 8:30amPT / 11:30em ET / 5:30pm CET. Please have your voting done by then so we can start putting together the program.

We will have (hopefully, only) one last meeting on November 26th to finalize the program.

There are a few things I've noticed about the talks so far:
  • There are a number of 'what's new in Java 8' talks. This is certainly a good topic, but we should try and find the best 1 or 2 talks here. We don't need a whole track on lambdas!
  • There are talks on non-eclipse technology, which is fine. But again, we should try to find the best talks here. For example, there are 6 proposals on Vaadin!
  • There are a few talks on commercial tools. If the talk is a case-study, or the speaker plans on talking about their experience building their tool on Eclipse technology, that seems fair. However, if it's simply -- here is how to configure our commercial tool -- then I'm not very interested. Of course, if you feel different, please vote for it.
  • I mentioned in a previous email that we would like to see new speakers and more women speakers. Don't worry too much about this while your voting. We can use this criteria for 'talks on the fence'. The first priority is a GREAT PROGRAM!
Thanks again everyone! If you have problems with voting system, please let me know.

Cheers,
Ian
