Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] PC Meeting

(sorry...., finger slipped).

Thank-you everyone for attending the EclipseCon 2014 PC meeting. For those of you who could not make it, we all introduced ourselves and mostly talked about the structure for this years conference. The minutes are available at [1].

[1] https://www.eclipsecon.org/wiki/2014_Program_Committee/Call_Minutes

The most important things are:
  1. There is no separate OSGi DevCon or ALM Connect. We are rolling these into the main conference
  2. We are going to have 'theme days'. This means that a single room, for 1 day will be dedicated to a specific topic (M2M, Vert.x and possibly _javascript_). Ian is considering offering a single day pass for these rooms.
  3. We talked about the categories / tracks for the conference. The key for a track is to ensure that we have enough talks for someone to justify attending the conference. For example, if we offer Modelling Talks, we want to ensure we have enough content that someone will attend to learn about modeling. I think we can all agree we decided on 5 categories:
Eclipse RT, Modelling, Platform & RCP (e4 separate?), Software Tools (continuous delivery, ALM, IDEs), Community
We need about 3 more. Some ideas, Java Track(?), C++ and Native, HCI / UCD / UX, Web
If anyone has ideas on the final few tracks, please share them with us.

We also talked about the next call. Since we need to get the CFP out by the end of September, we decided another call this month is a good idea. I've put a Doodle together [2].

Cheers,
Ian
