Re: [eclipsecon-na-program-committee] Selection status

Thanks Mike, that is good to know. For
me, those credentials combined with the "big data" hot topic
area make it a very strong candidate, and I suggest PC members take a second
look at it:

The big data one does look interesting. One
off-putting aspect is the submitter didn't even give his full name. I asked
him to provide a bio which should help flesh it out a bit. If anyone has
knowledge of this speaker and his qualifications please chime in.

Big data is a hot topic. Plus it talks about Cassandra and Mongo which
I'd like to see us talk about more in the Eclipse context.

To help everyone, here are links to the 3 BIRT talks that were submitted:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/big-data-and-business-intelligence
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/creating-data-driven-web-apps-birt
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/you-got-birt-do-what-nuts-and-bolts-birt-extension-points
I like the first one (BIRT + Bit Data the best), followed by the creating
data driven web apps with BIRT. The 3rd talk seems more like a tutorial
too me.
Just my $0.02.
cheers,
Ian

I’d like to follow-up in the BIRT discussion. I think it is important
we have a BIRT session in the program. BIRT is a top-level project
that is not represented on the PC. This was probably an oversight
when we created the PC, so I am hoping the existing members can help represent
the project.

After eliminating some duplicate talks yesterday,
we had 64 "in" talks, leaving room for four more. We discussed
several of the proposals and there have been a few with significant changes
in their votes. Based on this I have done the following:
Added the following three talks that are now solidly in the "top 68"
by vote:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/tale-2-platforms-eclipse4-and-griffon
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/your-custom-modeling-environment-definition-made-easy-last
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/experiences-porting-suite-massive-swing-apps-eclipse-4
Removed the following talk which has now dropped to nearly 90th place:
http://www.eclipsecon.org/2013/sessions/visualizing-community-eclipse-social-code-graph-revealed
Those were the only big moves that I could see. There were a few minor
changes around the 68 talk margin but I didn't adjust "in" tags
on these for now. We have two spots left that I would really like to see
allocated to Modeling. We still have room for changes in all categories,
so if you would like to present arguments for or against any particular
talk, please speak up on this mailing list or in Thursday's call. Often
different PC members will have insights into a particular talk, subject
area, or speaker that will help the rest of us make better decisions on
our votes, so please don't hesitate to speak up. This is *your* program!
FYI I have updated my "scorecard" spreadsheet with the latest
info. This doesn't need to control what changes we make, but the data help
to give a high level picture of the program from various angles.
