NOVEMBER 2016 EDITION

FOUNDATION UPDATES

Replay EclipseCon Europe 2016

With over 600 attendees and 39 sponsors, this year’s EclipseCon Europe, again exceeded all expectations. Some highlights included the keynote by Stephen Carver on management practices at NASA, an ever-growing IoT Playground for tinkerers, expert tracks on Quality and Testing, IoT and Eclipse and of course, fun stuff.

We recorded many of the keynotes and talks and will be posting these to the Eclipse YouTube channel in the coming weeks.

We thank all those who contributed to the success of the event, especially our program committee, our speakers and our sponsors.  The feedback from the event has been great, and the success is directly attributed to our members and committers who continually contribute in such an impactful way.

Save the date for next year - October 24-26, 2017!

Open IoT Challenge 3.0 Launched

Eclipse IoT working group is pleased to announce the third edition of the Open IoT Challenge. The Challenge encourages IoT enthusiasts and developers to build innovative solutions for the Internet of Things using open standards and open source technology. The previous edition yielded many great solutions!

Once again, the top 10 submissions will be supported with hardware development kits and the final winners will receive special prizes. Thank you to bitreactive, Bosch Software Innovations, Eurotech, MicroEJ, and Red Hat for sponsoring the challenge.

Participants are required to submit a proposal for their solution by November 25, 2016. All participants will then have until the end of February to build their IoT solutions. The winners will be announced the beginning of March.

Friends of Eclipse Enhancement Program (FEEP) 2016 update

The FEEP program, created earlier this year, has committed to allocate all funds donated through the Friends of Eclipse initiative to making improvements to the Eclipse IDE/Platform. This program is governed and managed by the EMO.

We are still working on a 2017 program plan, with the hopes of posting new desired development efforts in late November.  As input to this plan, we are seeking suggestions of enhancements that will have an impact on the upcoming Oxygen release. To gather priorities, we have created a mailing list where Eclipse members can register and submit propositions for new work items.
