RCP Initiatives
Ian sent out a draft proposal of a potential cooperative marketing programs around RCP. Copy of proposal is pasted into meeting minutes below:

Draft Proposal
o Goal:  The goal of the RCP marketing program is to raise the awareness and adoption of Eclipse RCP and at the same time promote the ecosystem of commercial solutions available for Eclipse RCP.

Potential Marketing Initiatives
o Run a series of 3 webinars that educate developers on the different aspects of Eclipse RCP.  To ensure maximum exposure and attendance, the webinars will be produced with a media company.   All sponsored companies will be identified in the webinar and receive the attendee list.
o Attend 1-2 focused trade shows to generate awareness of Eclipse in the Microsoft community.  All sponsored companies will be allowed to distributed RCP oriented literature in the Eclipse booth and receive any leads generated by attending the trade show.
o Create RCP focused success stories that involved the solutions of the sponsored companies.  These success stories would be posted on the eclipse.org web site at http://www.eclipse.org/community/rcp.php.
o Sponsor RCP Seminars in regions located close to the sponsored companies.

Sponsorship
o As with most Eclipse marketing initiatives, Eclipse looks for sponsorship from member companies.  This allows us to help promote the Eclipse ecosystem and extend our marketing resources.   Although we would need to finalize the budget for these programs, Eclipse estimates that we would need 5 companies to contribute approximately $5000 each.

Draft Proposal will be discussed next week during the marketing call. Interested participants, please join the call next week. The Foundation is looking for a critical mass of companies who will sponsor cooperative initiatives for RCP promotion.

Market Research
The 2nd annual study of the Eclipse user conducted by Evans Data and sponsored by the Eclipse Foundation and 8 member companies has been completed.   The goal of the study was to understand the wants and needs of the Eclipse user community and help organization better understand how they may position their solutions into the Eclipse community.

Some snippets from the research:

RCP is  gaining adoption and awareness. 22.7% of the respondents are using RCP; more impressive is that 68% intend to use RCP in the next six months.

Research surrounding Eclipse projects being used or planned to be use.  JDT was 1st with 57.5%; CDT was 2nd with 47.3%; EMF is being used by 36.5% of respondents.

To benefit the entire community, the an overview of the results are available on the Eclipse wiki found at: http://wiki.eclipse.org/images/0/05/Eclipse_Custom_Survey_8_24_06_Public_Version.pdf

The summary of the results are also found on Ian’s blog: http://ianskerrett.blogspot.com/2006/09/new-study-of-eclipse-user-community.html
