Re: [eclipse.org-feep-stakeholders] Friends of Eclipse Enhancement Program: 2017 plan

So the hope is that WTP SSE merges into the Generic Editor in the long term, doesn't it?

Hi Mickael,

Wouldn't the new Generic Editor + the Language Server Protocol integration be a good replacement for all existing WTP SSE editors?
If there are good language servers for everything, why not.
Also, the Generic Editor is quite new and can easily miss some features for the WTP-SSE (such as folding).
Also, the WTP-SSE editors are quire adopted by plugin/RCP providers.
And finally, on the long run, I don't think the Language Server Protocol and the servers will be sufficient and sustainable enough to place all our hopes on it.

To be honest, I hope Generic Editor will replace fully SSE ones, the sooner the better; but I don't think it can be considered as an achievable task for Oxygen. Also, even if the Generic Editor remplaces the SSE one, the extensions it will take will be more or less that same ones as WTP-SSE. Most of the WTP-SSE extensions could be reused by the generic editor. So improving WTP-SSE right now would probably benefit to Generic Editor.
