[eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Thoughts on EclipseCon Audition?

Ian and I have been working on putting together an "EclipseCon
Audition" series to
1) get people submitting submissions earlier
2) provide a nice "Ignite" style event for the community
3) provide some fun and help for the program committee in selecting talks
Let me know if you have any ideas on how to make this better. We will
be making an announcement soon.

Text: The Eclipse Foundation is pleased to announce the EclipseCon
Audition Sessions, a chance for people interested in presenting at
EclipseCon to try out their idea with the program committee and
community. Each year, hundreds of great session proposals are
submitted to the EclipseCon Program Committee. Unfortunately, the
conference never has enough space to accept all the proposals. This
year we want to give you the opportunity to do present a short version
of your proposal to the program committee and community. This is your
chance to audition for an EclipseCon speaking slot.
The format of the auditions will be the Ignite format. Each speaker
will have 5 minutes, 20 slides and the slides change automatically
every 15 seconds. The auditions sessions will occur on November 18
and be broadcast via a webinar. To apply for an audition you need to
have 1) submitted an EclipseCon proposal and 2) apply for an audition
by sending an e-mail to <lynn can you get an alias created>.
Deadline to apply for an audition is Nov. 12. The winner of the
EclipseCon Audition Sessions will receive a speaker slot at
EclipseCon.
As a reminder, November 17, 2010 is the deadline to be considered for
one of the top five early picks. The program committee will select 5
speakers from the proposals submited before November 17. The final
deadline for submissions is November 30, 2010.
EclipseCon 2011 is March 21-24 in Santa Clara, California. Early
registration is now open. Sponsorship packages are also now
available."
