[eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Re: EclipseCon Deciders Call #2 : Thu 7jan10 1600est

On the call: Oisin, David, Peter, Donald, Ed, Doug, Scott, Dave

We commiserated with ourselves for the amount of over
allocation we had, then attacked the tutorials en masse.

We decide to reject the following as tutorials - these may be
moved to a shorter talk slot, or marked as tentative denied

* 1512: Modeling Ourselves: AMP and the Eclipse Ecosystem
Considered too niche for a tutorial, reduced to a 25min talk

* 1366: Buckminster Tutorial/Workshop
We want to show fair-handedness to all build approaches, and
have them all on a level playing field in terms of exposure.
Reduced to a 25 minute talk.

* 1204: Who Let the Tasks Out? Mylyn Best Practices
We have considerable Mylyn content elsewhere in the program
and the topic is well covered by external documentation.

* 1166:  Eclipse Swordfish -- Service-oriented etc etc
No major software developments since the last conference,
and a topic that has relatively small attendance.

* 1493: PIMP your Eclipse: Building an IDE using IMP
There was a tutorial with the exact same title given last year,
and there has not been much in the way of activity in this
project since then, so we assessed there were more
broadly useful topics available.

So, if you have been doing your sums, you will realize that
after the snippage above, we were actually *below* our
allocation, and so we turned our thoughts to p2.

Chris - we think about you even when you aren't there. ;-)

There was a tutorial submitted about p2 from Kim and
Ian, which myself and Dave agreed to snip to 25 minutes,
so as not to show partisanship on the build topics. On
consideration, however, it's clear that a full p2 tutorial
would be about p2, and that p2 is only part of the build
process, not the end-to-end like maven or buckminster
might be. So we agreed to re-instate the tutorial

* 1327: How p2 can simplify your build

with the proviso that the abstract and focus is moved
from the 'build' and more towards the 'p2'.

One more item - we have also gone through the list
of tutorials and asked some of the tutorials to cut their
time. We tried to focus on the ones that appeared to
have less in terms of hands-on.

And that's our tutorials done. Ian stops beating Chris
around the head, and we can celebrate some success
by immediately getting into looking at the 50 minute
talks :)

If you have concerns, etc, do voice them.

 cheers
