[eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Re: [Submission System] Some feedback and update requests

Thank for the feedback on the Sub System. See my comments below on the progress of these tasks.

Hi Gabe,
A few things from todays PC call.

 1. Dave Carver and Doug Gaff are liking ckeditor to give our submission
pages a bit of polish. http://ckeditor.com/

http://docs.cksource.com/CKEditor_3.x/Developers_Guide/Integration
I have opened a CQ for the ckeditor. I have not attached the code yet as I need to review how much I need. Should have that done soon.

 2. When you are reading a submission, the text of the talk type, theme
and tags are a little confusing to read (I think - see the attachment for
a screenshot). My suggestion here would be make a small change -

Where you see

Extended Making for Eclipse

change to be

Making for Eclipse - Extended Talk

general form being

<theme> - <talk type> Talk

The tags are concatenated and make it a bit illegible. Where you see

Committer And Contributor Java Test And Performance

it would be better to read as

Tags: Committer And Contributor / Java / Test And Performance

and change it from bold-faced to either plain face or italics (I think it
takes over a bit).

This is done. Check out this example:
https://www.eclipsecon.org/submissions/2010/view_talk.php?id=1077

 3. This one is an enhancement and may be more tricky. If someone
selects "Extended" as their talk type, then we present another form
entitled "We have a limited number of Extended talks available, so
each Extended talk application is scrutinized by the Program Committee.
Please provide some reasons why you believe that this talk should be
granted 'Extended' status." Then there is a place to insert some text.
When the submitter saves, then this text is saved as a 'private' comment
to the PC.

I am am working on this one. I was also working on a feature to allow the author to ask for some extra time for their talk. Is this feature to replace the extra time or in addition to it?

 4. Is it possible to make tagging mandatory? That is, there must be
at least one tag before the thing can be officially submitted. Does this
make sense?

They now have to select at least one tag before they can submit their talk.
