To emphasize what Oisin said: for the most part, EclipseCon content
(speakers) have been reimbursed solely with a free or reduced-price
registration. We have paid for some (but not all) keynote speakers
travel and honoraria. In general, EclipseCon does not pay cash money for
content. However, we operations people also understand that the world is
changing and that travel budgets are tight and thus we have some money
set aside for content. Not much. Very little. An insignificant amount,
in the grand scheme of things... Mike (Executive Director) has said that
EclipseCon is not going to pay for speakers (pay for content).
Thus the program committee should be trying to continue the tradition of
reimbursing speakers with free or discounted registrations. Exceptions
to that tradition will need to go up the management chain, and those who
work for organizations know how much trouble that is :-)
