Re: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] Re: Discounts requiring all speakers to sign

Hi Bjorn,

Yes, I imagine it would negatively affect attendance but it's the logical conclusion of the "social engineering" policy.  What can I say, I think the whole thing is a problem.

Regards,
Kevin

Jeff, Kevin, and everyone,
Just so that I'm clear: are you suggesting that we show the program on the eclipsecon.org website *without any speakers* until each of those speakers has signed the speaker agreement? How do you think that will affect attendance? Will people sign up to go to a conference where there are talks but without visible speakers? The reason I ask is that I thought of doing this (hiding speakers until they signed their agreement), but it seems that while this may encourage speakers to sign their agreements, it's counter-productive in terms of getting people to come listen to those speakers...

So I propose that we institutionalize this approach and simply *mark* all speakers on the talks as hidden until such time as they have submitted their agreement.  So for all intents and purposes the speaker has been removed. They are not publicly associated with the talk and would not appear in the program etc. This seems simple and effective.
