Some conferences have them, some do not. I would think the difference comes from whether the conference name itself is good enough to explain the whole conference. E.g., MySQL DevCon - can't confuse that one. JavaOne - well, obviously about Java, but what about Java? Maybe a tag line would help there. Etc.
Given the admission we’re not marketing guys, maybe we should go ask some marketing guys?  Bjorn, do you know if the MSW folks might have some pros/cons on tag lines at other events they  run?
