Re: [eclipse.org-eclipsecon-program-committee] EclipseCon Submission site abnormally slow?

The maintenance of all the special cases was overwhelming. It was fine when it was just a bugzilla clone, but then we started adding a feature here and a feature there and it started to cost too much (time). Plus the Eclipse IT department supports PHP but not Perl. The bugzilla based one was Perl, the new one is, ta da, PHP.

For example, one of the new features the new system has this year is that it automatically steps the authors through signing speaker agreements (a big task because of our potentially 320 speakers this year) and distributes the free registrations and discount coupons to them (again, 320 speakers = a lot of work the old manual way).

So, yeah, I think there was a good reason. I liked the old one too - bugzilla just felt comfortable...

Also, it seemed we moved away from the bugzilla system to a home-rolled one. Was there good reasoning here... I liked the old one :(
