Developer Track PC -suggested proposals for your review
(This post is meant for the developer track program
committee.)
Developer
track program committee,
As
it's very late and we need to have 12 selections made by Wednesday, I'd like to
propose the following 12 long talks. I tried to select talks that I thought
many people would think are interesting. Please reply with any
comments/concerns. (I'm not set on this list but thought we needed a starting
point for this week's action of selecting 12 talks.)
Sri
- If you're on board with Tim's suggestion for dividing up the developer track
I suggest we speak this week about how to break up the work and the committee
and put the process into place next week.

Eclipse vs. Visual Studio -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=50
Unlike last year's VS talk, this one is not being given by a presenter who does
not work for MS or Eclipse. I think this looks like a very interesting talk and
the proposal has some solid comments on it.
59
Testing Eclipse - http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=59
This talk details how to test Eclipse plug-ins using JUnit, Abbot, PDE macros,
and TPTP. Testing is essential during development of Eclipse plug-ins. I think
this talk will be of interest to Eclipse committers and those developing their
own Eclipse plug-ins.

Gentle Introduction to GEF -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=71
This talk has been proposed by Koen Aers. We declined Koen's tutorial on GEF in
favour of Randy's and agreed to give his talk precedence as we really should
have him at the conference. Koen did a great job of introducing GEF at
EclipseWorld.
74
Build JavaServer Faces applications with the JSF Tools Pr... - http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=74
We declined a JSF tutorial because we weren't sure of interest. The JSF talk at
EclipseWorld was very well attended. (Extra chairs had to be brought to the
room because so many people were standing.) I didn't object to the decision to
decline the tutorial but I do think that this talk will be very well attended.
84
Time Travel made possible with Eclipse (temporal debugging) -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=84
This tutorial explains how to create a custom debugger and focuses on debuggers
for embedded applications. The debug framework was refactored to support the
requirements for embedded debugging and I think this should be showcased at
EclipseCon.
93
Your Action is My Command -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=93
We
declined a tutorial on the same topic because we didn't feel there was enough
content to fill 4 hours. I think this topic is of interest to the Eclipse
developer community and should be represented in the program.
148
Managing APIs with Eclipse API Scanner -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=148
APIs are essential to the success of the Eclipse platform and to the success of
Eclipse sub projects. Jeff implemented an API scanner that both checks your
project's API usage and API definitions. The scanner is in use in WTP's build
and will be very useful to other Eclipse projects and Eclipse based projects.
173
XML Binding with the Eclipse Modeling Framework -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=173
This tutorial will cover the frequently required XML -> Java binding showing
how to accomplish the talk with EMF. Ed Merks, a great presenter, will lead this
talk.
195
NASA Mission Operations with the Rich Client Platform -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=195
Read the abstract and the comments on the submission. This talk sounds to me
like it will be great.
234
Extending Eclipse WTP to Build Commercial Development Pro... -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=234
I think this talk is just right for the developer track. This talk showcases
building a commercial product on top of Eclipse and WTP.
260
Common Navigator Framework for Platform/UI in 3.2 -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=260
This talk covers the common navigator framework, a powerful new framework that
will be part of the Eclipse platform in 3.2.
279
10 Tough Decisions You Must Make When Developing An Eclip... -
http://canuck.gda.itesm.mx/eclipsezilla/show_bug.cgi?id=279
This talk covers the decisions to be made when building an embedded IDE on
Eclipse. Embedded is a hot topic with Eclipse these days and the abstract of
this talk looks very interesting.
