[eclipse.org-committers] EF IT update

Hello Eclipse committers and project leads,

It's been a while since I've updated you on what's happening within the Eclipse Information Technology group at the Eclipse Foundation.

Common Build Infra: New Features

For those using the Eclipse CBI (Jenkins, GitLab Runners), a set of new features have been released: GitLab Pages, Package Registry and Container Registry. Read all the details on this cbi-dev mailing list post.

If you use Eclipse CBI, we encourage you to join the list to receive similar notifications in the future.

Bots, Bots, Bots

We've been part of the industry trend of being targeted by bots and crawlers from all corners of the world, and April/May being our busy season, this phenomenon hits us particularly hard. Our web properties contain 20+ years of professional software development history; a real treasure trove of information for those looking to train models on software development.  In some cases, the underlying platforms serving this content have been unable to cope with the demand. Some platforms, such as cGit, Forums and Bugzilla, have been deprecated for years and have simply been retired, or their retirement plans have been accelerated.

In other cases, such as Jenkins CI and GitLab, we've enabled authenticated access to resources to ensure fair access to all.  If you use Jenkins CI, you may need to adapt some of your builds. Please see this HelpDesk Ticket .

Infra is Busy: Season 1 Episode 1

As mentioned, April and May represent our peak period for resource utilisation. Now is a good time to ensure you're using mirrors to promote your artifacts on download.eclipse.org and to optimise build processes to consume resources more efficiently. Season 2 Episode 1 begins towards the end of August and we're actively planning our resource allocations to handle that post-vacation period.
