Greetings Committers.
In this month's session, we're going to present briefly about roles in the Eclipse Foundation Development Process before taking your questions. We'll talk a little about the roles that are formally defined (contributors, committers, and project leads) along with de facto roles like technical leads and product manager (spoiler: product manager is a role that doesn't make sense in the context of vendor neutral open source).
I'll use this opportunity to remind you that Eclipse project committers must use the resources assigned to the Eclipse project by the Eclipse Foundation. Making it so that people who are outside of the development team (that is, the contributors) have the ability to access the most up-to-date version of the project code is an absolute requirement. To that end, committers must push content directly into designated open repositories. Eclipse project committers must never stage to a private or semi-private repository and then periodically sync to the open repository; employing this sort of strategy raises a significant barrier for entry that makes it impossible for anybody else to participate.
