[eclipse.org-committers] Infrastructure update - Bugzilla, Bugzilla, Bugzilla...
|
Greetings committers,
This issue is mostly about Bugzilla:
1. Download mirrors - excluding nightly builds
2. Bugzilla: NEEDINFO resolution requested
3. Bugzilla/MySQL stability
4. Bugzilla: default bug template
5. Bugzilla: want new features?
1. Download mirrors - excluding nightly builds
==============================================
We recently started excluding some Nightly builds from the files that
are mirrored to our mirror sites. This has reduced our bandwidth
consumption considerably, for it is less costly to provide bandwidth for
the relatively few downloads for nightly builds than to mirror the
entire builds.
As an added bonus, this reduced the disk space requirements for our
mirror sites.
We're currently excluding these file patterns:
drops/I* drops/N* drops/M* webtools/committers/ *.jpg *.gif
callisto/staging/ callisto/testUpdates/ eclipse/testUpdates/
If your project produces daily/nightly builds that aren't covered by the
above file patterns, please ping us so we can add them to the exclusion
list.
2. Bugzilla: NEEDINFO resolution requested
==========================================
Pascal requested a NEEDINFO Bugzilla resolution. Because this is a
global change, I'd like to get your feedback on this. Please see and
comment on https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=143337
Please note that adding a resolution involves modifying a database table
structure, and this won't happen until after Callisto is released.
3. Bugzilla/MySQL stability
===========================
April and May haven't been good months for Bugzilla/database stability.
In early April, our MySQL server started misbehaving, and the appearance
of this issue unfortunately coincided with an outage that occurred days
earlier, causing us to spend lots of time looking at (blaming?) our setup.
We've since concluded that there's a bug with the MySQL version we're
running. Although we're still running the same "broken" MySQL
version[1], we've moved the offending database to a separate server so
that it does not impact Bugzilla, the Wiki and other services using the
database. We have been quite stable ever since, and we're expecting our
level of stability to return to its pre-April level.
Big thanks to the folks at Intel who volunteered some resources to try
to solve this.
4. Bugzilla: default bug template
=================================
Olivier suggested creating a template for new bugs. You can
read/comment about it here:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=131806
5. Bugzilla: want new features?
===============================
Many of you often request new Bugzilla features. So far, the Foundation
has had a policy of not modifying the Bugzilla code, and Mike
Milinkovich explains the Foundation's position here:
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=104100#c6
While we usually wait for Mozilla to implement and release the features
you're asking for, nothing is stopping us (or anybody, for that matter)
from contributing code patches to Mozilla to get the new features into
the release more quickly.
Please post your follow-ups in the bug.
As usual, thanks for reading. If you have any comments/concerns, our
Inbox is always open.
Denis
[1] Our MySQL databases are running on IBM's Power5 architecture, which
is not supported by MySQL. We therefore don't have a simple, solid
upgrade path for MySQL, other than waiting for the next Entreprise Linux
release from Novell. Novell are aware of the problem. As far as I know,
Entreprise Linux distributors don't typically build the latest versions
of the software packages to provide updates - they usually apply
incremental code patches to the released version.
