[eclipse.org-committers] Project Declaration: Mobile Tools for Java

As per the Eclipse Development Process, we are notifying the Eclipse Membership-at-Large of the intent of Nokia to propose the Mobile Tools for Java project as part of the Device Software Development Platform PMC.

A brief description of the project is below. A draft project proposal has been posted on http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/mtj/.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Mobile Tools for Java*

The goal of the Mobile Tools for Java project is to extend existing Eclipse frameworks to support mobile device Java application development. MTJ will enable developers to develop, debug and deploy mobile Java applications to emulators and real devices.

The high level intent is to provide mobile tool frameworks for any interesting enhancements in the mobile world. There will be a placeholder for any JSR or de facto standard that gets industry acceptance. Here are a few examples: JSR-232 <http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=232> (Mobile Operational Management), JSR-249 <http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=249> (Mobile Service Architecture for CDC), JSR-271 <http://www.jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=271> (MIDP 3.0) and so on.
