We've discussed this at today's PMC call: given the severity of the
problem, we will provide a patched 3.6.1 base builder and do another
Eclipse SDK build with the new builder.

Does this have an impact on software being built at Eclipse ... in other
words, should the Helios SR2 train make sure that they use a Platform
3.6.2 Basebuilder such that the compiler generates correct code ?

Hi,
A bad bug has been discovered which has an impact at runtime. The compiler
is tagging some statement as dead code and therefore optimize them out of
the code generation. This is related to a bogus diagnosis for null
analysis.
A fix is ready and has been released for 3.7M6.
We request approval to release it for 3.6.2 as well.
