[eclipse-ide-wg] OCX 2026: meet in Brussels, workshops and BoFs for the tooling community

Dear IDE community,

Open Community Experience (OCX) 2026 is just around the corner, in less than 1 month from now (April 21 to 23 April).

Beyond the main sessions, this year’s programme includes a number of topics directly relevant to the Eclipse IDE and Platform ecosystem, from Java development and SWT evolution to AI assisted tooling and collaborative development environments.

I wanted to highlight a couple of workshops that I’m particularly looking forward to:

  • The workshop Systematic AI Coding for Real World Projects focuses on practical and repeatable approaches to AI assisted development. If you are already experimenting with tools like Copilot, Cursor, Codex, Claude Code, or Theia AI, it should give you useful ways to structure and improve how you use them in real projects.
  • There is also a session on the Cyber Resilience Act, Are you ready for the CRA? Learn how the EU regulation will affect open source. If, like many of us, you have been hearing about the CRA and meaning to look into it more seriously, this is a good opportunity to get a clearer and more practical understanding of what it means, especially for projects and organisations building on Eclipse technologies.

More generally, one of the main reasons to come is simply to meet in person. It consistently brings a different level of discussion and energy compared to online exchanges.

In that respect, the BoF sessions are often where some of the most engaging conversations happen:

If you were considering joining, now is a good time to register and be part of these discussions. You can still use the discount code IDE20 for an additional 20% off registration.

I hope to see some of you in Brussels,

Thomas Froment
