Re: [eclipse-dev] Highlights for 2025-03 Eclipse IDE landing page

Hi Elsa,

Thank you for initiating this process, the Eclipse CDT project is having a major release, CDT 12, in line with 2025-03 and I have started the discussions with EF team about promoting the release. There is this tracking issue for it https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipse-wg/ide-wg/community/-/issues/68

The plan, from that issue, is that one or two of the "Better Than Ever" squares on eclipseide.org will be about the CDT release. I will be working on exact content and wording next week.

Can you please include a link to https://gitlab.eclipse.org/eclipse-wg/ide-wg/community/-/issues/68 on the GitLab issue you create (or has already been created) for this work?

Thanks!
Jonah

Hi all,

The Eclipse IDE landing page highlights some of the features of the release. Please see the landing page for the past release - https://eclipseide.org - for example.

Similar to the previous releases, I would like to gather inputs from the community on features that can be highlighted on the page for 2025-03 release. The content that I have curated so far are :

Improved Java Development Tooling : Enhanced code folding for control statements, custom formatters for Java primitives and arrays, options to compare elements and view exception stack traces directly in Variables view, and some new clean-up and quick-fix options for Java 21.

Improved Platform : Enhanced light theme with a lightweight tab design and flat look without 3D gradients, Edge (WebView2 engine) replacing the now outdated Internet Explorer as the default browser, and an improved search filter in Import/Export and Show View to support category names.

We encourage you to share any additional developments or features that you believe should be highlighted on the landing page for this release. We appreciate your feedback and suggestions.

@Hannes Wellmann I noticed that PDE features haven’t been curated here. Would you happen to know if this is intentional, or if there’s another source where I could find the features for this release?

Thanks and Regards,

Elsa Zacharia
