[eclipse-dev] Classify newcomer bugs

Friends of Eclipse,

Christoph (cc) from the University of Hamburg develops tooling to
automatically identify and suggest bugs which are good for new
contributors. We (vogella GmbH) are supporting this effort for the
Eclipse Open Source project.

Could you help a few minutes with training the engine? Simply go to
the following website and enter your name and your preferred
component (screenshot: “start_form").

https://appmate.informatik.uni-hamburg.de/

The interface is relatively simple, see screenshot “issue_overview" below.
You can classify a bug as newcomer friendly, as difficult, or skip it.
If you click on the title of the issue, the full description will be displayed.
If you click on the bugID on the left, a detailed page is opened.
>From the detail page you can also jump to bugzilla via the the
highlighted link in the “issue_details” screenshot.

The data will be used to used to train the classifier engine and we
plan to provide this tooling so that new contributors can easily find
good entry points.

Finished tooling is planned to be Open Source under the EPL.

Best regards, Lars
