If split-package works like a charm and doesn't introduce any confusion to p2 nor OSGi, and that it doesn't require (much) additional effort to keep things running, then I'm not against it. I just want to highlight that split-package can be cause of various problems and that's probably not something that can be adopted without much testing.
Do you have the guarantee that splitting packages wouldn't break anything?
