This could be a VM bug if we trust the executing binaries (could it be a
corrupted JAR?).
One thing to try to disambiguate is to attempt to run the tests with a
different VM, or to simply turn the VM JIT off (add VM args: "
-Djava.compiler=none"), if it works then the VM JIT is guilty (would need
to be reported to JIT folks then).

The following dialog was opened while running the UI automated JUnit tests.

The tests run on Windows 2000 with the IBM vm version 1.3.1 sr3.
Please let me know if my assistance is required to troubleshoot this
problem.
