Re: [eclipse-dev] Problems starting eclipse (RedHat 7.1 and Windows)

There is a lot of information on the Eclipse newsgroup about starting Eclipse.  For running under Linux, you may want to look at this posting:
From: ufans@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (Bernard Spanyar)
Subject: Re: Eclipse under Linux

For running under Windows, you may want to look at this posting:
From: leodeegan@xxxxxxxxxxx (Leo Deegan)
Subject: Problem starting eclipse

Or you may just want to post your question again there.  There is also a FAQ on Eclipse Corner:

That said, the newsgroup is a better place to ask this kind of question.  The eclipse-dev mailing list is for questions/mail related to the development of Eclipse.

I've downloaded eclipse R1.0 and Sun JDK 1.3.1 (Linux) and IBM JDK
(Windows).  I then linked in (Linux) the jre and copied the jre folder
(Windows) into the eclipse directory.  I then start eclipse, the splash
comes up, but nothing else.  I've waited 5 minutes on both platforms
still no luck, except on the windows side the eclipse splash goes away
after about 30 seconds.  On the windows side I've also set up the "Start
In:" exactly as suggested.
Not sure what's happening.  As you can see, I've got the jdk
installed correctly and I believe I have eclipse unpacked correctly.
Any advice would be useful.  I've seen mention of a .log file, but can't
find it and don't know if that would help.
