Re: [ecf-dev] Microsoft Communicator/Lync/Skype Support

Hi Wim.

Support as in work! :)

Seriously, MS has released iPad, iPhone and Android clients for communicator. I'll have to check further, but I thought that they may have released an API/SDK for it, I do not know however, if that includes a Java library (and if it does, what it's licensing concerns would be).

So it appears that it uses SIP, or an extension of.

Initially, I just wanted to see if there were, or had been any plans to support the ability to connect to a Lync/etc server.

Hi Chris,

Can you define "support" a bit more? Are you looking for UI or for API.

Do you know if MS communication products are open protocols? AFAIK Skype is proprietary.

Hi everyone.

I emailed Scott directly, and he (rightly) asked me to ask here.

I am currently using the RTC Eclipse Client (either 3.6 or 4.2 based, depending on where I am and what VM I'm using), this has ECF Core API 3.1.300.v20120610-1946 (plus the other plugins) installed in it.

I am currently working at a site where they are using Microsoft Office Communicator/Lync as their IM tool.

I did some research on getting ECF to talk to Communicator, and most articles either said it was impossible or you needed to use the XMPP/Jabber provider.

I've tried that, and I've been unable to successfully get it to work (even changing the port to 5061).

So, my question really boils down to are there any plans to get get the ECF to support the MS Communicator products?
