Re: [ecf-dev] ECF 3.8.1...Luna M7 and wind-down

I've put a warning in the supplemental file transfer category label...that it's not needed for Eclipse Kepler or Luna.    I'll also add some notes to that effect to the download documentation.

Other suggestions...to avoid install problems...welcome.

Yes, that's what I figured. I put my user hat on and selected everything.

One drawback of the new P2 function to propose an alternative installation scheme is that the user might be tempted to actually select the proposed option. This sometimes offers to uninstall core parts of Eclipse to allow installation of the selected items. I think that the average user does not have a clue of the consequences.

I  think you must be selecting ECF Supplemental File Transfer Providers...as I don't have any problems installing just the ECF SDK for Eclipse and ECF Remote Services SDK into M7.   Could you un-select the Supplemental File Transfer Providers category and try it?

I've started to create download documentation that details the feature categories...and the fragment for installing from update site is here [1].    This is what will be used on the download page when we release ECF 3.8.1/Luna.  I might beef up the language around *not* checking the ECF Supplemental File Transfer Providers category...and I'll look into the dependencies for this...but it's not intended to be a normally selected item (only consumers that wish to get the non-latest version of apache httpclient should really need it).

Hi Folks,

I've just built ECF 3.8.1/Luna, and then used it to make ECF's contribution to the Luna aggregator for M7+1.

I will test the M7 build/distro, but I would appreciated it if others will try installing it into Eclipse Kepler and/or Eclipse Luna...and check for install issues, incorrect meta-data, etc.  If you find something that looks wrong, please open an ECF bug [1], and it will be fixed prior to RC1 if at all possible.

If people are installing parts of ECF (e.g. remote services/RSA) into non-Eclipse environments (e.g. Karaf, Equinox-on-server, etc) then any reports of difficulties/problems would be most welcome.

One thing to know...for Kepler, it's necessary to install a 'feature patch' for p2...so that the ECF core and filetransfer bundles are used/usable in Kepler.   This is not necessary for Luna, because with [2] we have made it possible to update ECF core+filetransfer at any time.   I will eventually update the ECF download page docs with this information...i.e. the need to have the feature patch on Kepler but not with Luna...but I haven't had a chance to do so.

Please try to do this soon...i.e. before week of 5/12...so that there is sufficient time to address any install issues before RC1+0 (5/17).

Thanks,

Scott
