Re: [ecf-dev] Juno simultaneous release for ECF?

Hi,

from a consumer perspective I would greatly appreciate if ECF stayed on the train. From my experience, the Eclipse release train repositories are the best source for consuming Eclipse dependencies for stable and reproducible builds and a great way for end users to install from a consistent repository of Eclipse projects.

In Mylyn we generally only allow dependencies on release train projects to keep our releng overhead reasonable and to provide compatibility across several Eclipse releases. If ECF dropped from the train we would need to consider removing functionality in Mylyn Builds that uses ECF's discovery framework which I would hate to do.

Hi Folks,

We are coming up on the deadline (Milestone 4) for deciding whether or not ECF will be participating in the Juno simultaneous release.

My question to the community is:  Do you want to continue in the simultaneous release for Juno?  There are a number of requirements (too many IMHO) for projects to participate in the simultaneous release, and of course all those requirements implies time and effort from the committers.

So...if people believe we should be participating in the Juno simultaneous release, are you able/willing to contribute to the ECF participation requirements? (Since ECF has been participating in the simultaneous release for 4+ years now, there is not nearly as much work as participating for the first time...but there is work involved in participating (reviews, releng, the inevitable ip requirements, etc).

Ok...please make your thoughts known here...we'll discuss over the next few days...and I'll decide about participation based upon the discussion.

Thanks,

Scott
