[ecf-dev] How to use zoodiscovery without the autoStart option?

I would like to use zoodiscovery without the autoStart option (-Dzoodiscovery.autoStart). I see there's a public method init(ServiceReference reference) to start it manually. Is there any example on how to start it manually?
