RE: [e4-dev] Resources 6-Mar-2009 meeting notes

And BTW, there are signs that git might indeed help with
keeping the branches in sync (i.e. rebasing e4 on every e3.5 milestone). James
Blackburn has made some initial experiments which have helped him to "port back"
the resources changes from e4 into e3.5 easily:
He agreed to post more instructions for how to set up and
use git as an Eclipse Committer here:
I encourage everyone to watch that Wiki page
:-)
Cheers,

Of course there'll be problems. However, there aren't really any better
answers. As I see it, this isn't any worse than the ongoing porting effort
that the equinox team went through when they switched over to using OSGi. You
pick sync points (every milestone seems reasonable), and you merge the changes
from head into the e4 stream. This costs some time out of each milestone, but
otherwise just works. It also helps to ensure that the e4 developers are aware
of the ongoing development on whatever component is being worked on, which
makes it easier to graduate the developers (as platform committers) along with
the code.
(And no, switching to <insert your favorite repo here>
won't fix the problem.)

Martin,
My only concern about moving CNF to e4
resources repo is that some part of
UI
will be developed in two
different places, e.i. e4 ui and e4 resources.
Wouldn't there be a problem
with syncing them in the future?
Regards
