Re: [dsdp-pmc] Web Tools for Mobile Project

Sorry about the slow response as I'm right in the middle of a new mobile product release.

My understanding of the key differences between the visions of the Symbian proposal and the Blinki project is Symbian's emphasis on project elements and tools for creation of a mobile web IDE. Some of the proposed tooling directly overlaps with the Blinki scope. But Blinki's scope also looks beyond tooling towards application frameworks. I have not sync'ed with Paul yet but I would gladly share PM responsibilities with him if there is an interest to avoid overlapping project scopes and share our respective organization's expertise in the web tool and IDE development areas. Yet if that complicates the objectives of DSDP and the mobile community then I support a separate Symbian project. Blinki has exhibited slower progress than originally envisioned mostly due to a challenging economy environment and project personnel attrition. We have new team members that are schooling up and will soon be participating on Blinki.

Thanks for the comments Doug and Martin.

Tools for Mobile Web works for me.

There is definitely some overlap between TMW and Blinki.  In some sense, TMW could be considered a reboot of Blinki.

The focus of the two projects is not exactly the same.  Blinki was very focused on the deployment piece of Web development, where TMW is more of an integration project pulling together various open source components to produce a full IDE for mobile web developers.

I'll make the fix to the mentor section.  Any other volunteers?

Thanks,
Paul

Whatever the name is, please explain how it relates to Blinki:

In general, I would expect from Proposal documents that
they reference existing related technology at Eclipse
and explain how they relate to it.

Thanks,
