Fwd: [dsdp-ercp-dev] Re: eRCP in OSGi standardization

I think I can explain the initial silence in the mailing list. We had
the major part of the eRCP community ready at eclipsecon and we had a
meeting where we have exchanged the ideas on the standardization
issue. They were mistaken by that meeting since I was aware of their
support they did not need to respond. I think I should take the blame
on that initial silence, I guess I did not communicate the purpose
very clearly with the community.

It is fair to say that eRCP community is interested enough in the OSGi
standardization of the technology they have worked so hard to create.
The companies that provide most of the committers for the eRCP project
have expressed their interest and commitment and also the major
adopters of the platform have indicated their interest and the need.

As you probably are aware Sprint recently announced our Titan Platform
which is our new Java platform leveraging the OSGi framework. One of
the critical components to the success and adoptability of this
platform is the inclusion of eRCP as an application UI Model.
Standardizing eRCP would have great benefits to the developer
community by providing API specs with greater implementation details
than Java docs as well as providing as consistent an implementation as

Sprint is working aggressively on a commercial release of the Titan
Platform and having standardized eRCP APIs on the roadmap for our
developer community would be valuable.
