Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Open Software without Free Trade.

Dear Jörg,

Note: this is my personal opinion and does not engage anyone else.

Whatever we think about the current situation, the 4 freedoms that define free/libre open source software absolutely forbid us, or anybody, to do that.

Dear fellow eclipse contributors,

Russian invaded Ukraine. As a response international sanctions taken place.

Sanctions are not only done by governments but also by sports, business corporations and individuals. I ask eclipse foundation to join sanctions:

Please assist all efforts to stop that war by supporting the export control of key technologies.

In special Russia and China are trying to get independent from foreign computers by developing domestic hardware platforms “Elbrus” [1] and “LongArch” [2]. Those would bypassing hardware export control [3]. But hardware is not enough. They also need software. And that is where eclipse comes into play. Unless we explicitly support such hardware platform our software won’t run on domestic hardware [4].

I do not like that the world is getting separated. It should be free and united. We need to send a signal that open software is not used to suppress people.
