Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] [WARNING] SimRel Headed Off the Tracks

Yet even this is non-trivial work that must be done by someone.

We seem to be so concerned with the details that we are completely ignoring the bigger picture.

The EF provides many services to us that we could not survive without. (No doubt we may have suggestions for doing them even better, but at least they mostly get done.) Thank you very much.

AFAIAA the EF employees are paid, presumably from Friends of Eclipse and other begging bowls.

It appears that many very important communal activities are not EF-funded and so unreasonably dependent on the enthusiasm and time-generosity of a few individuals. Again thank you, but this is where the sustainability problem lies.

All project-neutral activities such as SimRel, MarketPlace admin, AERI admin, ... must be EF-funded; perhaps not generously funded but at least reasonably so.

We need to ensure that the big users of Eclipse really contribute.

I gather that Huawei makes use of QVTo, perhaps to manage product lines, but certainly QVTo and I expect Eclipse gets nothing in return....

Once we have sustainable funding for project-neutral, we can perhaps move on to funding widely useful activities such as OOMPH, EMF and some legacy projects.
