Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] [eclipse.org-committers] Use Milestones/RCs To Test and Run

FYI,

I don't think the RC2 build will be published to a web page because this should/will actually become the final release, baring any last minute respin requests.  Certainly the following repository already exists:

  https://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/2019-12/RC2/

But that will be moved up into https://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/2019-12 because https://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/2019-12 will become a simple repository at the right moment based on the contents of this:

  http://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/packages/2019-12/epp.rc2.769.zip

(Because everything already exists in some form, I can already test regenerating the catalogs and I can test installing the release versions with the installer.)

I believe that the following are what will be reveal as the release downloads at the right point in time on Wednesday:

https://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/downloads/release/2019-12/R/

Those will be much faster than to fetch these things using ci.eclipse.org.

Not only that, you can use the mirrors to make downloads even faster still, e.g.:

  https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/epp/downloads/release/2019-12/R/eclipse-java-2019-12-R-win32-x86_64.zip

To use a mirror, just copy the file name you see in https://download.eclipse.org/technology/epp/downloads/release/2019-12/R/ and paste it to the tail of the URL https://www.eclipse.org/downloads/download.php?file=/technology/epp/downloads/release/2019-12/R/ to synthesize the appropriate mirror URL.  The download.eclipse.org server will thank you.

Regards,
Ed

The Platform cannot envision all the ways it is used. We do what we can to test. So, as long as you test your stuff against all the milestones and then don't file bugs after RC2 - fine.

Projects have enough on their plates testing their own code, let alone testing the platform. This seems to be a deficiency in the regression testing of the platform, and should be handled by the platform team IMHO.

It would be great if everyone could at least test or even better, run on the latest milestone/RC. Platform got a stop ship bug for 4.13 and one for 4.14 reported after RC2. The 4.13 bug was introduced in M3 and the 4.14 bug in M1. So, there would have been enough room to find the bugs earlier.

Of course the Platform team does exactly that but everyone has its own patterns how to work and hence, unfortunately did not detect those bugs.

Thanks to everyone who helps with testing!
