We noticed that a huge part of the payload in content.jar (for Mars this file is 2.7 MB big) contains copyright notes.I would expect that this is true for the content.xml (44MB), but not for the content.jar after compression. How have you identified this "huge part" in the binary jar?

We are discussing to remove this from the content.jar file in https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=463166
IMHO this should result in a significant reduction in download size of this file which should hopefully speed up any installation process and reduce load on the Eclipse servers.
