Re: [cross-project-issues-dev] Are about.ini, about.mappings and about.properties obsolete?

Hi,

Personally, I use it to insert the build ID in the about dialog of my RCP.
However, by using Tycho and the Maven ANT plugin, one can easily an alternative mechanism if required. I have already tested it.

So, I cannot decide whether it is still necessary.

Hi

While checking why a rebuild refreshed a JAR file, I discovered that an about.mappings file gets rewritten during a build to contain the build-id. This was perhaps useful 5 years ago. Has it gone obsolete? Is it used anywhere?

It certainly seems a shame to churn built JAR files for no very obvious benefit.
